Basaglar adjustment (titration)
Adjusting your BASAGLAR (long-acting insulin) is easy using three simple steps.
BASAGLAR insulin is a long-acting insulin that works in your body for 24 hours.
Many people start on 10 units of BASAGLAR each evening at bedtime. This is a low dose of BASAGLAR, and you may need to adjust the BASAGLAR to the right dose for your body. You will know you are on the right dose when your blood sugar, first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything, is between 80 and 110, that’s 80 - 110.
Here are the three easy steps
Inject your BASAGLAR at night, before going to sleep
When you wake up, before you eat or drink anything - check your blood sugar.
if your blood sugar is above 110 then you are not on enough BASAGLAR yet and you need to increase your BASAGLAR dose by 1 unit at bedtime.
For example: If you started on 10 units of BASAGLAR at bedtime when you wake up tomorrow morning you will check your blood sugar. If your blood sugar is above 110 you will need a higher dose of BASAGLAR. Since you started on 10 units, you will add 1 unit, and now you will take 11 units before bedtime. You will keep checking your blood sugar each morning and if it is higher than 110 you will continue to increase the BASAGLAR by 1 unit each evening at bedtime.
Keep repeating these three easy steps, slowly increasing your BASAGLAR by just 1 unit each evening at bedtime until your blood sugar first thing in the morning is between 80 and 110. This means you are on the right dose of BASAGLAR.
